Damp Alarms
A damp alarm is a type of electronic device which send you an alert any time it comes into contact with damp, moisture or water.
Very much like a smoke detector, but for water leaks. These types of alarms are also known as damp sensors, leak alarms and leak detectors. They may be found in any domestic or commercial premises to notify residents to the presence of water or damp promptly to ensure damp or water damage can be minimised by addressing what caused it in rapid time. The basic idea is that they will alert the user to leaks before any major damage occurs.
They are usually about the same size as a smoke alarm and the batteries can be changed in the same way. These types of alarms have sensors located on the feet or side of the case, which are calibrated at the time of set up to log the existing moisture content levels as normal, and, only when this water content level is surpassed, will the alarm go off.
How Damp Alarms Work
A damp alarm is normally above 80 decibels: Which is around the same level as a vacuum, if you are the one performing the vacuuming. Contact us today to receive a free quote on your water leak alarm supply and installation.
Damp alarm systems typically run off of batteries. We also offer wired and automated damp alarm systems or leak alarm systems that can be integrated into your smoke or fire safety systems (if you have these).
However, for basic, low cost water alert systems, the units that we can provide and install without planned works and without wiring into an existing system or augmenting the electrics to provide a power supply, are battery powered.
The sensor on a damp alarm is located along the side of the case as well as on the feet as stated earlier: it consists of 2 thin wires, located a tiny length apart. When water makes contact with both wires, the resistance between the 2 is reduced, allowing the current to travel via the circuit to the alarm, which is activated and alerts any person in proximity to the leak.
